Fans and followers of contemporary jazz need no introduction to Max Bennett.  An internationally known bassist and composer,
his experience spans from concert touring, recording and producing, to composing
music for feature films and television.
Max has toured and performed in concert with vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee, and
Aretha Franklin, just to name a few.  His many years of working in the studios have given him the opportunity to exercise his affinity for
jazz, blues, rock and latin music, and to combine those elements into his music.

The list of outstanding artists with whom Max has recorded
includes, Quincy Jones, The Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Marvin Gaye, Frank Zappa, various Motown Artists, Celine Dion,

Nelson Riddle, Henry Mancini, Ray Charles, Michael Franks, Frank Sinatra,Phil Spector, Michel LeGrand, and countless others.

Other artists Max has performed in concert with are jazz icons Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, The Crusaders and many more.

His world-class experience and desire to expand the boundaries of jazz and rock music led him to re-conceive jazz in the
world renowned band L.A.Express, which included Joe Sample, Larry Carlton and John Guerin, under the leadership of Tom Scott.  After the
success of this band, Max formed his own group "Freeway," and currently heads his
most recent and musically adventurous band, Private Reserve.

The Los Angeles Times, says, "Max Bennett is the genuine article himself, having come up through the "bebop" era
to become a central figure in the contemporary jazz scene."

Private Reserve's music blends the best of contemporary concepts with the richness of jazz, blues, rock and latin music.

Max says,"We feel that people identify with our strong melodies, rich harmonic structures and diverse rhythmic concepts.  It is our goal to create
original music of substance and intrinsic value."

ALL THAT JAZZ FUNDRAISER

A call for musicians, sponsors and volunteers!!!

Project Overview

Two active and persistent jazz and cultural arts organizations, Cross-Cultural Connection, Inc. - Headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Polyrhythms/Quad Cities Jazz Festival, LTD - headquartered in the Quad Cities, will collaborate to host an "All That Jazz" fundraiser, Saturday, September 27th, at Davenport's Capital Theater, 330 W. 3rd Street, Davenport, IA. to benefit
Iowa flood victims.

The \"All That Jazz\" fundraiser will feature jazz artists from across the country coming together to do their part to help alleviate and restore losses from the destruction suffered by the people of
Iowa as a result of the recent flooding.  The organizers hope to raise $150,000.

To this end, 50% of the funds raised will be dedicated to the Eastern Iowa African American Historical Museum, located in
Cedar Rapids, which was significantly devastated.  The remaining 50% will be distributed throughout the state in the manner deemed most beneficial and appropriate.

State and City government participation is essential since a major focus of this statewide flood victims fundraising effort will rely on gaining corporate, local and state funding in addition to ticket sales at the "All That Jazz" fundraiser.

The Red Cross or a Bank with extensive
Iowa presence will be recruited as fiscal agent for all proceeds.

Any musicians, sponsors or volunteers who would like to participate in this event please contact Ray Blue at: rayblueisax@yahoo.com or 646-319-8008

Regards,

Ray Blue, Executive Director
Cross-Cultural Connection, Inc.

From Dick Watson:

Hi Friends!

I want you to know about a fun thing that's going
on.

I will be playing on the Celebration Belle tour boat
again this year with the John O'Meara Band.  It is a
cruise with the items of the day being music for
listening and/or dancing, looking at beautiful
scenery from the boat as it cruises, and good food
and drink.  The food is included in the fare.  These
cruises will leave from
Moline except for one out of
Dubuque and will go from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
There will also be two double cruises--down to
Muscatine and then another back.  The second ones
back run f rom
4:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.  You could
book both of them and spend the whole day, or just
one of them.  If you go on just one, you will need
to have a way to get back to your car since these
cruises leave in one city (morning from
Moline and
afternoon from
Muscatine) and end in the other.  The
fare price this year is $50.00.  The double cruise
would also double the price.  You will be fed 3
times on the cruises.

In Moline you can get to the boat by crossing the
I-74 bridge over the Mississippi and taking the
first exit (River Drive) in Moline and go about 1/4
mile up river to the Celebration Belle.   You can
see the boat from the bridge on your left as you get
near the
Illinois side.

The
Dubuque boarding will be at the shore near the
casino that's next to the
River Museum.

You can make reservations by calling the Celebration
Belle at 1-800-297-0034.  You can also book on their
website: www.celebrationbelle.com .  Sometimes these
cruises are booked up so well that they need to use
two decks with two different bands.  You should
request to be on the deck with the John O'Meara Band
to make sure you are where we are.

Here are the scheduled cruises to date.

May 21 (double cruise to Muscatine and back)
June 12 & 26
July 16 (leaving from Dubuque)
July 18, & 24
August 6, 14, & 28
September 11 & 18
October 22 (double cruise to Muscatine and back)
Oct. 23 & 29

My best to all,

Dick

P.S. Pee Wee Matese and I will commence doing a duo
at lunchtime at Carl and Ernie's "Good Time" Pub &
Grub every Friday from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.  We
will start on Friday April 12th.  It is located at
161 Highway 1 West in the
Wardway Plaza in Iowa
City
.  That the strip mall where Arby's, Fin &
Feather, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, etc. are located.  I
will be looking at some
Cedar Rapids venues in the
near future and will advise you of any results.
